Course overview

If you are looking to develop a career in the field of care, such as, a teacher, social worker, nurse or paramedic, this short fulltime programme is ideal to give you  access to a Swap Access course or to return to education.

The programme runs from end of January 2024 to June 2024 and takes place over two and half days per week.

What you will learn

  • Sociology
  • Human Body
  • Values and principles
  • Human Development / Psychology
  • Core skills such as Communications and ICT.

Candidates will be assessed using a mixture of assignments such as: essays, class-based exams and presentations.

Currently the majority of this course will be online but there will be college attendance for practical based learning.

My favourite part of the course has been being able to push myself outside of my comfort zone in order to learn the necessary skills to move on to university. I felt I was maybe too old to start over again in a new career but since meeting lots of like-minded people it’s gave me the confidence to go for it and I’ve learned so much along the way.

The course has been instrumental in helping me gain a place at my chosen university to be able to go on to study a Paramedic Science degree and ultimately have a future career as a Paramedic in the Scottish Ambulance Service.
