It has been a busy week as many cycling events took place at GKC!
Class Visit – Cycling Presentation to ESOL Students
On Friday 14th December, Sandra, our Campus Cycling Officer and Ricardo and Nina from Bike for Good (local cycling charity) gave a presentation to an Elementary ESOL class at Springburn Campus.
Thanks to a pedagogical approach, they managed to deliver, once again, a very interactive presentation, allowing the students to learn new vocabulary and to discover more about cycling.
Ricardo and Nina took the opportunity to present two projects they are currently running:
- Curious Commuter
Those projects are aiming to help people, who are willing to commute by cycling or even to learn how to ride a bike. Funded by the Climate Challenge Fund, Bike for Good is able to offer a wide range of services for FREE (maintenance classes, essential cycling skills, all season cycling, etc.).
This experience was very successful and the ESOL students expressed a great enthusiasm during the visit. Some of them even dared to have a go on a bike after years without cycling, assisted by Nina!
A huge thank you to Conal Jardine and Joanne Freeman for taking part of it!
Other lecturers have already expressed an interest in hosting this cycling presentation with their students; if you would be interested, please be in touch with Sandra at email@example.com
Another Bike Breakfast took place on Monday 17th December at GK Velocity Cycle Hub (Springburn campus) in collaboration with the Student Association. On this occasion, the College has been working in partnership with the North Glasgow Food Community Initiative; it was a good opportunity to raise awareness about healthy and organic food as well as fair trade products.
We offered FREE fair trade coffee and tea as well as festive food such as mince pies, fruits and vegetarian sausage rolls to everyone who joined us; beginner and advanced cyclists.
The aim of this event is to give students and staff the opportunity to meet up and chat about cycling, regardless of cycling abilities. We are willing to organise more similar events in the next few months.
Once again, thank you to those who were able to attend the event! We hope you had a good time and look forward to seeing you the next one!
