HNC APPLIED SCIENCE (GLASGOW UNIVERSITY)
This course has been designed in agreement with The University of Glasgow (UofG), to allow successful students to progress on to the second year of any Life Sciences degree program at the university.
The HNC Applied Science course is designed to develop a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience in: cell and molecular biology, anatomy and physiology, mathematics, chemistry and microbiology.
What you need to qualify for entry...
- 1 Higher at grade C for Higher Human Biology/ Biology or Chemistry.
- Candidates will also have experience of science and mathematics at National 5 or intermediate 2.
- Students that have successfully completed all units on a NQ Applied Science L6 course would also meet the entry requirements.
This is a Widening Participation initiative, and applicants must be care-experienced or Scottish domiciled, residing within a target postcode area (SIMD, deciles 1-4). You can check your postcode for eligibility on the University of Glasgow’s postcode checker
Please note, Scottish domiciled applicants must have been ordinarily resident within Scotland for three years prior to the start of their course
You will build up an excellent understanding of a broad range of scientific concepts and skills, including:
- Cell Biology
- anatomy and physiology
- dissertation writing.
You will also learn to perform a vast range of scientific techniques essential for industry and academia.
This is a full time course that will run for 1 year.
The course will be timetabled for 2.5/3 days per week.
There will also be additional sessions timetabled at Glasgow University during the HNC, and a 3-week Summer Programme at the University, running June into July.
Successful completion of all units on this course, with an A for graded unit (dissertation), and successful completion of all elements run by the University of Glasgow (UofG) will allow progression on to second year of a Life Sciences degree programme at UofG.
This is an articulation agreement with The University of Glasgow and you have a guaranteed place on any of the University’s Life Science degrees if conditions are met.
