GKC student Matthew McCaffrey has been selected as a Young Programmer for this year’s Glasgow Youth Film Festival. The annual festival is curated by young people, under the guidance of the organisers Glasgow Film Theatre, and aims to enable younger audiences to experience the best international cinema, from mainstream crowd-pleasers to groundbreaking art-house experimentation, with filmmaker guest appearances, interactive workshops and discussion panels.
Applications for the Young Programmers committee are open only to invited groups of young people, and the Foundation Apprenticeship in Creative & Digital Media class was such a group this year. Matthew’s application was successful and he will help choose the films and organise the events at this year’s festival. SCM in Business & Creative Industries John Clarke said,
“We’re working a number of projects in partnership with Glasgow Film Theatre, so we’re delighted that Matthew’s application was successful. It’s a great opportunity for a young person to be involved at a high level in an event with such a profile, and to develop real skills in a professional environment, which is the main goal of the Foundation Apprenticeship.”
Festival organiser Becca McSheaffrey from GFT added,
“Our GYFF Young Programmers are a group of young people from all over Glasgow who come together to co-curate a three day film festival with the Glasgow Film Theatre team. We are delighted to have Matthew on board and excited to see the group’s final programme"
