Glasgow Kelvin College, SCQF and Scottish Sports Futures (SSF) are celebrating success at the recent sportscotland SSF Awards held in the Radisson Blu Hotel.
Winner of the Partnership Award, the College was recognised for its work in accrediting qualifications for coaching staff working on the Education Through Cashback programme. The ETC programme, developed in partnership with Youth Scotland, aims to enhance sports coaches’, youth workers’ and volunteers’ understanding of personal development through sport. It is designed to equip them with knowledge and confidence to deliver activities effectively to young people, many of whom experience disadvantage and life challenges.
Phil Storrier, Curriculum Manager with Glasgow Kelvin College, and Marie Woods, Senior Curriculum Manager, worked closely with SSF and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) to accredit six of the eight available modules on the programme. This means that trainees achieve officially recognised industry-standard qualifications to help them in their role.
SSF is a highly-respected charity with a 20 year reputation of ‘Changing Lives Through Sport’ and helps to deliver sports and activities to young people from some of Scotland’s most deprived neighbourhoods. The annual awards night is an emotional and inspirational reminder of what can be achieved through partnership working, putting young people at the heart of everything they do.

One of the key personnel who worked on the qualifications, Phil Storrier, accepted the Award on behalf of the College at the glittering ceremony in Glasgow. He said;
“I think this is a great recognition of the offer of the SCQF Framework, both in what it can give people across the country and in the potential it has to change the landscape of education provision. The ETC modules are a great example of needs-based provision and we are delighted to play our part in supporting young people all over Scotland to gain a new wave of qualifications.
Finally, I am extremely proud of the partnership as it shows the effective ways that education and industry can work together to improve life chances. Glasgow Kelvin College and SSF share a joint vision of changing lives and for that you need education and opportunity which is exactly what this partnership brings.
