Funding for Under 18s

A young male student in a green t-shirt sits in a classroom, smiling while holding a whiteboard marker. Other students are visible in the background, including a student in a white hijab.

If you’re under 18 when your course starts, you will be assessed for an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). You must have reached the statutory school leaving date (i.e., turned 16 on or before 30 September). If you turn 16 between 1 October and the end of February, you’re eligible from January.
