Travel Funding Overview
Glasgow Kelvin College supports eligible full and part-time Further Education students with travel costs:
- Under 22? You get free bus travel with a National Entitlement Card (NEC).
- 22 or over? You may be eligible for a travel allowance if you live more than 2 miles from college.
- 60 or over? You get free bus travel (NEC).
- Have a disability? You might get a free bus pass (NEC) or help through the Additional Support Needs for Learning Allowance (ASLNA). See Accessible Travel Support.
Funding for Universal Credit Claimants
Free Bus Travel for Under 22s
If you’re under 22 and live in Scotland, you can travel for free on buses with a National Entitlement Card (NEC).
- Apply online for your NEC.
- If free bus travel is suitable, we won’t pay extra travel costs.
- If buses aren’t practical (e.g., long journey times or no nearby routes), you may qualify for a travel allowance for other transport.

Accessible Travel Support
Free Bus Pass (Disability)
You may get a free bus pass if you receive:
- Adult Disability Payment (ADP)
- Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
Apply through Transport Scotland.
Additional Support Needs for Learning Allowance (ASNLA)
If you can’t use public transport due to a disability, ASNLA may help cover extra travel costs like taxis.
- Not means-tested.
- Can top up mobility benefits (e.g., ADP, PIP, DLA, or Motability Scheme).
- Requires medical evidence and proof of mobility benefit.

How to Apply
- Full-time students: Apply through the Bursary/EMA application. We’ll automatically assess your travel eligibility if you live over 2 miles away and are 22 or older.
- Part-time students: Apply through the part-time fee waiver form.
