ACCESS TO SOCIAL WORK AND SOCIAL SERVICES
Access to Social Work and Social Services is a full-time course (21 hours per week), delivered over one academic year. It is part of the Scottish Wider Access Programme (SWAP).
This course is aimed at adults who have some life experience and whose objective is to progress onto further study at Glasgow Kelvin College on HNC Social Services (Care) and then university BA Social Work.

What you need to qualify for entry...
Whilst there are no formal qualifications required, applicants must have good written and spoken communication skills.
Applicants will be assessed through their personal statement as part of the recruitment process.
Where English is not your first language Higher ESOL or equivalent is necessary.
You need to provide a comprehensive personal statement with your application which MUST include the following:
1- Why you wish to study Social Work.
2- What branch of Social Work you would like to work in.
3- What skills and attributes you believe you have and how these will help you when working in Social Work.
4- What you believe the biggest challenges will be for you coming to Glasgow Kelvin College to study and state how you will cope with these challenges.
5- Why is an understanding of legislation important when working within the Social Work sector?

- Care: Social Influences
- Care: Human Development and Behaviour
- Child Protection
- Health, Safety and Protection Issues in Care Settings
- Mental Health and Mental Illness
- Loss and Grief
- Communications Level 5 & 6
Full Time (3 1/2 days per week)
1 Academic Year
August - June.
Successful completion of this programme will allow progression to HNC Social Services (Care) or may allow progression into employment as a basic grade support worker in the care sector.
