The NQ Business Administration (Level 6) at Glasgow Kelvin College is ideal if you want to develop advanced business and administration skills for the workplace or prepare for higher-level study. Whether you’re aiming for a career in business, retail, customer service, or finance, or planning to start your own business, this course provides the skills and confidence you need.

You’ll build a clear understanding of the role of business and administration across a range of sectors. The course combines business knowledge, employability skills, and digital technologies with practical experience in customer service, marketing, HR, and finance.

This course is perfect if you:

  • Are a school leaver or adult returner with a strong interest in business.
  • Want to develop advanced administrative, IT, and customer service skills.
  • Are aiming for entry-level roles across business, finance, marketing, or HR.
  • Plan to progress to HNC/HND in Business or Administration or apply for university study.

What you will learn

The course offers a broad and practical introduction to business, covering key subjects that reflect the modern workplace. Topics may include (subject to change):

  • Analysing Accounting Information – interpreting business accounts and financial data.
  • Management Accounting – understanding costs, budgets, and decision-making.
  • Understanding Business – exploring structures, objectives, and external influences.
  • Management of Marketing and Operations – learning how organisations attract customers and deliver services.
  • Management of People and Finance – gaining insight into HR and financial management.
  • Digital Technologies for Administrators – using IT to support office functions.
  • Social Media for Customer Service – engaging customers and building digital communication skills.
  • Human Resources – understanding recruitment, development, and staff relations.
  • Economics of the Market – exploring how supply, demand, and markets shape business.
  • Financial Accounting for Limited Companies – gaining specialist knowledge of accounting processes.
  • Personal Finance – developing money management skills.

You’ll also use Office 365 for collaboration and Microsoft Teams for remote working, preparing you for the realities of the modern business environment.

Entry requirements

This course is ideal for both school leavers and adult returners

✅ Three National 5 qualifications, including English  (or equivalent), OR

✅ An appropriate NQ/NC at Level 5 in a relevant subject such as Business, Finance and/or Marketing  (including Communications at Level 5).

✅ Applicants without formal qualifications are encouraged to apply and will be assessed individually.

ℹ️ For this course, if English is not your first language

  • you need to have SQA ESOL Higher (or equivalent, click here to see equivalent qualifications)
  • If you do not have a formal ESOL qualification but your language skills meet this level, you should apply for your course and then contact our Admissions team to organise an internal language assessment  here at the College.
