With the end of the year approaching we have a few events and activities taking place.
From dance shows and art exhibitions we have it all.
We also have news of an exciting venture this week, so read on.
New Basketball Academy Initiative
Glasgow Kelvin College has joined forces with spectacular professional basketball team, Glasgow Rocks, to found the Glasgow Rocks Basketball Academy, the first academy of its kind in Scotland.
Glasgow Rocks Team owner, Duncan Smillie and Glasgow Kelvin Principal, Alan Sherry, signed a Partnership Agreement which maps out the way ahead for budding basketball heroes.
Head Coach, Darryl Wood joined Rocks’ Captain, Kieron Achara, Academy Director Gareth Murray, College lecturers Carol Goodwin and Nicola Craig from the Sports Coaching programme joined together to celebrate the first steps in this pioneering initiative.
The innovative pilot programme is aimed at keen young amateur players who want to pursue a basketball career while also studying for qualifications. The basketball element of the programme will be provided by Glasgow Rocks and will run in parallel with their studies on a mainstream course, undertaken at Glasgow Kelvin College.
The partners will recruit 20-25 young people to the Academy, where each would have the opportunity to practice on a daily basis and play one competitive game a week on top of their full-time programme of study.

“Two Little Ducks!” – Hospitality Students Bingo Event
There were cries of "Two Little Ducks!" to be heard across the Easterhouse campus as the Hospitality students, supported by lecturers Brenda Anderson and Drew Murray served a Bingo Lunch to a 'full house' at the Training Restaurant.
Part of the course involves the planning and delivery of an event and this year the Level 4 Introduction to Hospitality students choose to serve a range of hot and cold Afternoon Tea style finger food and bingo-themed cocktails before six games of charity bingo.
A total of £270.65 was raised at the event on 11th May for the PDSA in Shettleston.
Thanks to all local businesses for the donation of prizes.
Well done to all the students!
‘Strictly Dance’ – End Of Year Dance Show
The dance show includes the following styles of dance - contemporary, commercial, jazz, tap, ballet, jive, charleston, salsa and samba!
The show is a very fun, energetic, upbeat show so we're sure it would be a good evening out!
Busy Week For Electric Honey
It's been a hectic few months for the Music Business and TV Production students... and a busy time in the weeks to come!
Headlining at the Electric Honey Showcase on 31st May at Oran Mor, we have Colonel Mustard and the Dijon Five, who have cut a single on Electric Honey, a remake of their signature ballad, Peace, Love and Mustard.
A well-established and much loved live act, Colonel Mustard will be coming to entertain us as a warm-up to their appearance at the International DMZ Peace Train Music Festival in South Korea.
To accompany the single, TV Production student Chris Lynch, created and filmed a promo video, shot in and around favourite Glasgow haunts.
See it on YouTube:
And our own Music Performance student, Toni Woods, a promising young lyrical talent whose poignant single, Better Man, has just been released on the Electric Honey label, will also be appearing at the Showcase on 31st May.
From Easterhouse, Toni is in her 2nd year of the programme and has worked with HND TV Production student, Harry McDowell on a moody and touching promo video for the single. See more of this on youtube:
These pieces of work are a great testament to the work of the students and the staff who support them.
Help them celebrate this by coming along to the Showcase at Oran Mor on Thursday 31 May 2018, Doors 7pm, where you'll be treated to a line-up of today's most exciting bands on the Glasgow music scene, including Nickajack Men and PAQUE.
