Normal service resumes this week after a brief break as a result of the wintery weather last week.
It has been another week full of activity, with visits to the college for events during Apprenticeship Week and trips out for students taking part in International Women's Day. Some lucky students even got a chance to meet Gary McLean, Scotland's National Chef.
Lots to catch up on.
NPA Playwork Trip
On Wednesday 7th March the NPA Playwork students from the Springburn and Easterhouse campus went on a trip to the Glasgow Science Centre accompanied by staff members Jennifer Peebles and Heather Miscandlon.
The purpose of the trip was to explore how we can promote STEM in the Early Years.
On the day the students visited various exhibits ranging from construction, technology, thermal energy and even squeezed in a visit to the planetarium.
Each student was tasked with sourcing a minimum of 5 activity ideas from the exhibits and making a plan of how these could be adapted to fit an Early Years setting encompassing the Early Level of Curriculum for Excellence.
A fantastic day out!
Level 6 Professional Cookery Students Meet Scotland’s National Chef – Gary McLean
Level 6 Professional Cookery students enjoyed a guided tour at City of Glasgow College yesterday, by none other than Scotland's National Chef - Gary McLean.
Most of our students have interviews at City of Glasgow next week and enjoyed the chance to hear about the courses, progression routes and what would be expected of them if they studied there.
The students sat down and enjoyed lunch in Scholars training restaurant.
Apprentices Sharing Their Success
During Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2018, some of Glasgow Kelvin's excellent Modern Apprentices have been sharing their success stories with others through the press and company newsletters. Both have impressive stories to tell:
Find out about Toni's impressive journey in The Scottish Sun
And hear how Declan is working his way up on the East Dunbartonshire Council site
Empowering Women – IWD18
Level 6 beauty students from EH campus did their bit for empowering women at an International Womens' day event at Cranhill Development Centre yesterday where they offered female members of the community hand and arm massages and manicures.
They had a great time and did an excellent job of representing hardworking female students for GKC!
Celebrating Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2018
The highly successful partnership between BESA Scotland and Glasgow Kelvin College is providing excellent benefits for young Scottish engineering apprentices.
Four key engineering employers – FES, James Frew, MAQ Air Conditioning and City Refrigeration who are all BESA member organisations – have shown their commitment to developing their apprentices by providing a range of quality industry standard products and resources to the College to support apprenticeship training.
As one of the College’s key partners in building services engineering, BESA Scotland helped to broker this contribution. It ensures that apprentices are receiving training which is industry-relevant and that they are familiar with new and sustainable technologies.
