On behalf of SNIPEF and SQA with honoured guests from EU Skills and the Institute of Gas Engineers (IGEM) Glasgow Kelvin College was delighted to host a lively meeting at its Springburn Campus this week.
The focus was on Gas Training requirements for SVQs in Building Services Engineering trade disciplines.
The meeting was very productive with the Engineering, Construction and Science Faculty SVQs in Domestic Plumbing & Heating, Heating & Ventilation Industrial and Commercial Installation, and Service, Maintain and Commission Building Engineering Services being recommended for the EU Skills Guidance Note 8 list of qualifications. These are applicable in the UK to undertake ACS Gas Assessment and qualification at Category 2 level for Modern Apprentices.
The Faculty Curriculum Managers, Sam Thomson (SQA Senior External Verifier) and Colin Campbell, justified why SVQs should be listed on Guidance Note 8 with regards to the Gas Training provided in the different Building Services Engineering Sectors.
Glasgow Kelvin College has made a significant contribution to ensure that their Modern Apprentices can access ACS Gas Assessment as Category 2 applicants, as the level of training and assessment being delivered exceeds the Managed Learning Programme requirements specified by EU Skills and IGEM, and the competency requirements of the Gas Industry.
