Course overview

Glasgow Kelvin College is delighted to announce that we will be the first college in Scotland to pilot the new and improved ‘Next Generation’ HN Acting & Performance qualification in 2023/24. This qualification will be more practical, interactive and performance-based, and will also support the development of your metaskills and employability skills, without losing any of the vital areas of practice of the previous version.

Acting and performance lie at the heart of the entertainment industry. Great actors need to have imagination, expressive energy, confidence, self-belief, a desire to explore and the ability to work hard to get where they want to.

Where better to learn the craft of acting and performing than in Glasgow, a cultural hub of emerging talent and a city known for its wit, humour and challenging audiences.

On this practical programme, you will train with expert teaching staff. They will guide you towards the techniques and skills you will need to help you develop into a fully rounded performer, ready to progress your career in the world of acting and performance.

Performing Arts at Kelvin work in partnership with Platform Theatre, where many of the productions take place. We also collaborate with other industry professionals who will deliver expert workshops to you, providing you with current industry insights and connections.

The new ‘Next Generation’ Higher National qualifications use a different registration process, where the first year (Higher National Certificate - HNC) and second year (Higher National Diploma - HND) are registered separately, rather than the two-year registration used for the traditional HND qualification. This means that successful applicants to the course will be registered for HNC in 2023/24 and again for HND in 2024/25. This is simply a procedural change and does not affect your position, funding or prospects as a potential learner on the course. As with the previous HND 2-year course, if you successfully complete the HNC year, you will be guaranteed progression to the Year 2 HND part of the course.
