Course overview

Develop your digital skills and prepare for an exciting future in computing, coding, and creative technology.

This one-year, full-time NQ Computing (Level 5) course builds on introductory skills and introduces new areas of digital design, programming, and networking. You’ll gain the technical knowledge and hands-on experience needed to move confidently toward advanced study or a career in the tech industry.

Covering core topics such as software development, robotics, web design, and computer networking, you’ll strengthen both your creative and analytical skills while working in a supportive, project-based environment.

This course is ideal for:

  • Learners who have completed NQ Computing Level 4 or equivalent experience
  • School leavers and adult returners interested in developing digital and programming skills
  • Anyone aiming to progress to NQ Level 6, HND Computing, or into tech-related employment

What you will learn

You’ll study a blend of practical and theory-based subjects to build your skills in computing, creativity, and collaboration, including:

  • Robotics – Explore automation and programming for intelligent systems
  • Games Design & Development – Create interactive games and learn basic coding principles
  • Networking – Understand how computer systems connect and share data
  • Web Design & Development – Build and publish engaging websites
  • Web Apps - Work confidently with Word Processing, Presentations, and Spreadsheets
  • Social Media Literacy – Learn how digital platforms are used in business and communication

You’ll also complete National Progression Awards (NPAs) in:

  • PC Passport – Recognised qualification in core IT applications
  • Web Design – Develop professional-level web skills
  • Computer Games Development – Gain experience designing and building playable projects

Entry requirements

✅ Successful completion of NQ Computing Level 4 (or equivalent)

✅ Interest and aptitude in computing or digital technology

✅ All applicants will attend a short aptitude event to ensure the correct entry level

ℹ️ You must be 16 years or older at the start of the course.

ℹ️ For this course, if English is not your first language

  • If you do not have a formal ESOL qualification but your language skills meet this level, you should apply for your course and then contact our Admissions team to organise an internal language assessment  here at the College.
