This two-year, full-time HND Music (Vocalist) course develops you as a confident, expressive singer ready for the modern music industry. You’ll train in a professional environment, performing live, recording in studios, and collaborating with musicians across genres — from pop and rock to jazz and soul.

Through technical training, live projects, and creative workshops, you’ll strengthen your vocal range, style, and control while building the performance and production skills needed for a professional singing career.

This course is ideal for:

  • Singers who want to develop professional-level technique and confidence
  • School leavers or adult returners passionate about performing and recording
  • Musicians aiming for a career in live music, studio sessions, or teaching
  • Those planning to progress to university-level study in music or performance

What you will learn

You’ll explore a mix of performance, creative, and technical skills that prepare you for professional practice, including:

  1. First Study – Voice: Weekly one-to-one lessons focused on tone, breathing, projection, and stylistic interpretation
  2. Live Performance: Rehearse and perform solo and ensemble sets across genres and venues
  3. Digital Audio Workstations: Record and produce vocal tracks using Logic Pro and Pro Tools
  4. Music Theory & Aural Skills: Strengthen pitch, rhythm, and harmony understanding to support sight-singing and arrangement
  5. Songwriting & Composition: Develop your creativity through lyric writing and original music projects
  6. Music Business for Musicians: Learn how to manage your career, handle bookings, and market your work
  7. Music History & Context: Study influential vocalists and movements that shaped the contemporary music landscape

Your learning will be practical and collaborative, with opportunities to perform regularly, record original material, and gain experience in front of live audiences.

Entry requirements

✅ One Higher (including Music or equivalent) or an NQ Music qualification

✅ Demonstrable vocal performance ability

✅ Interview and practical audition

✅ Mature applicants with experience will also be considered

Your audition will be the key factor in selection, focusing on performance skill, musical awareness, and enthusiasm for collaborative work.

  • If you do not have a formal ESOL qualification but your language skills meet this level, you should apply for your course and then contact our Admissions team to organise an internal language assessment  here at the College.
