Here at Glasgow Kelvin College we’re delighted to announce that our own Sandra Thomson, Lecturer for Fashion, was recognised by TES at the end of 2020 for the amazing work which she and her marvellous team undertook.
During the first phase of lockdown, Sandra and the team from Fashion Design & Manufacture got right behind the ‘For The Love Of Scrubs’ campaign to produce essential workwear needed by frontline and supporting staff and organised through Fabric Bazaar.
Under the organisation of the talented team, the College donated bolts of easycare fabric, threads and elastics, and the teaching staff put their own experience of pattern design and production into practice. The patterns they put together at home were posted out to machinists everywhere to help them create the necessary ‘scrubs’ for use on the frontline of the fight.
Sandra marshalled the committed staff from her department, including Alison Malcolm, Elaine Carswell and Margaret Kyles, who gathered the supplies and delivered them to a delighted Holly Baxter-Weir at Fabric Bazaar.
TES had featured a piece on the initiative early in lockdown and have now identified Sandra as one of their ‘TES FE People of the Year 2020’ for the tremendous work undertaken by her to support the NHS.
A delighted Sandra said;
“This has come out of the blue and we are truly humbled to receive this recognition. It shows what teamwork can do and this team certainly deserve recognition. It seems a lifetime ago and here we are still fighting the battle that is Covid.
Nice to end the year on a positive note! I am full of hope that 2021 will be a better year and that we can all be back in college doing what we love to do.”
Congratulations go to Sandra for this impressive accolade and grateful thanks to her and the team for all their hard work. Well Done!
