Heather Jackson
Secretary to the Board
Heather Jackson brings a wealth of experience in governance and educational management to her role as Secretary to the Board of Management at Glasgow Kelvin College.
Originally from Dundee, Heather began her career in the banking sector, working for Midland Bank in London and later Credit Lyonnais. In 1995, she transitioned into further education, taking up her first post at a college in Leeds, where she led the Business Development Department before progressing into a range of senior management roles.
Her career has included key positions at Sheffield Hallam University, East Riding College, Harrogate College, and a decade with Advance HE (formerly the Higher Education Academy), where she now works on an associate basis. Prior to joining Glasgow Kelvin College, Heather served as Director of Governance at Barnsley College, a role she held from 2019 onwards.
As Secretary to the Board of Management, Heather works closely with the Chair, Principal and Board members to strengthen governance arrangements, support the effective operation of the Board and its committees, and ensure that the collective expertise of governors is utilised to support the College's continued development and success.
Outside of work, Heather enjoys cooking, gardening and travelling, and admits to being an enthusiastic shopper. She is Chair of the Canniesburn Owners Association, sits on the Board of Dress for Success Scotland and volunteers each week for the Beatson Cancer Charity. A lifelong learner, Heather is currently studying for a degree in the History of Art.
