The College’s recently recruited Railway Engineering course is gathering pace!
The 24 young students who came to us in January are set to benefit from the partnership forged with SWGR – the recruitment organisation for the railway industry in Scotland – where they will not only learn the essential electrical and mechanical engineering skills for a job in the industry, but will gain the essential work experience for the role of Railway Engineer.
A skills shortage in the industry means that SWGR can also help the students through the mandatory vendor qualifications. The goal of the 18-week programme is that eligible students will eventually be taken on by SWGR where they will earn an income and continue their training and experience.
SWGR, a near-neighbour to our Springburn campus building, are delighted at the response and are keen to publicise the success of partnerships like these.

Forging partnerships such as these not only benefits our students, providing them with real opportunities for a sustainable career, but also keeps our teaching staff abreast of developments and intelligence within the industry.
Well done to everyone who has been involved with this innovative partnership programme!
