Glasgow Kelvin College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Dermot Grenham as Interim Chair of its Board of Management, with effect from 15 August 2026. The appointment, made by the Scottish Ministers, follows the recent strengthening of the Board through the appointment of new Board members and marks an important step in supporting the College's continued strategic development and governance.
As the College welcomes its new Interim Chair, it also recognises the significant contribution of its outgoing Chair, Ian Patrick, who is stepping down from the Board following 13 years of dedicated service to Glasgow Kelvin College and its predecessor institutions.
During his tenure, Ian provided strong and principled leadership, helping to guide the College through periods of significant change and development. His commitment to learners, staff and the wider community, together with his unwavering support for the College's mission and values, has made a lasting impact on the organisation.
Joanna Campbell, Principal and CEO of Glasgow Kelvin College, said:
"Today we bid farewell to our outgoing Chair, Ian Patrick, who leaves the Board following 13 years of dedicated service to the College. On behalf of everyone at Glasgow Kelvin College, I would like to thank Ian for his outstanding commitment, leadership and support over many years. He has played a significant role in shaping the College's success and has always championed opportunities for our learners and communities. We wish him every success for the future and are grateful for the lasting legacy he leaves behind."
The College now welcomes Dr Dermot Grenham into the role of Interim Chair. Dr Grenham has served on the College's Board of Management for the past five years and has chaired the Audit & Risk Committee for the last two years. He brings extensive expertise in governance, finance, risk management and strategic oversight, alongside a strong commitment to education and public service.
Professionally, Dr Grenham is Company Actuary at the Medical and Dental Defence Union of Scotland and a member of the Council of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. He has also lectured at the London School of Economics and holds a doctorate in mathematics from Oxford University.

Commenting on his appointment, Dr Dermot Grenham said:
"I am honoured to take on the role of Interim Chair of Glasgow Kelvin College. Having served on the Board for several years, I have seen first-hand the transformative impact the College has on learners and communities across Glasgow. I look forward to working with fellow Board members, our students, staff and wider partners to build on the College's successes and support its ambitious vision for the future."
Joanna Campbell, Principal and CEO, added:
"Dermot brings a wealth of experience, a deep understanding of the College and a strong commitment to good governance. His appointment provides continuity and stability as we welcome new members to the Board and continue delivering our strategic priorities. I am delighted to work alongside him as we continue to shape a future-ready College that transforms lives through education."
The appointment comes at an exciting time for Glasgow Kelvin College as it continues to deliver its Glasgow Kelvin 2030: A Strategy for a Future Ready College, while strengthening partnerships with employers, communities and stakeholders across the region.
A further change for the Board is the appointment of Heather Jackson as Secretary to the Board following the successful appointment of Michelle Brand as Executive PA to the Principal.
