Sent on Behalf of Robin Ashton, Vice Principal – Curriculum
Dear College Student,
I know the ongoing strike by College lecturers will be of great concern to you. As an individual college, we are supportive of national discussions to resolve the dispute but recognise that the longer the strike continues, the greater the potential impact on your studies. Therefore, I want to outline to you how we will support you in your studies and the successful completion of your qualification.
Although we are not yet in a position to know the full impact of the strike action, we will offer support to you in three ways:
- Guaranteeing Internal Progression – for all continuing students who were on track to successfully complete their programme, we will convert your conditional offer to an unconditional offer so that you are guaranteed your place next year.
- Supporting Certification– for college leavers, we will work with SQA and other awarding bodies to explore how we can best secure your certification. The aim of this will be to support you to achieve your qualification and receive your certification this academic year.
- Protecting Pathways– we will work directly with universities and employers to identify ways we can protect your successful progression to your planned next step.
Our teaching Faculties are now considering, on a course-by-course basis, how these actions can best support you and your class to recover your lost learning. I know these actions cannot fully undo the negative impacts caused by the strike action, but I hope that through these approaches we can minimise any harm to your studies.
