The great success of MADE Academy Barbering students, Edson McCall and Sarah McGarvey, in the City & Guilds and Men’s Hairdressing Federation Awards 2021/22 has been a huge team effort from across the Glasgow Kelvin College community.
Glasgow Kelvin College is thrilled to announce that its MADE Barbering Academy student, Edson McCall has won the prestigious City & Guilds and Men’s Hairdressing Federation (MHfed) prize for 2021/22 and Sarah McGarvey, a fellow-student, has claimed the third prize with a Highly Commended.
Edson and Sarah jumped at the chance to enter the MHFed Awards and, working with other students from across the College, submitted their his successful entries.
Edson’s outstanding work on the City & Guilds Barbering programme saw him cut and style his prizewinning entry using another Glasgow Kelvin student, Louie Fagan from the HN Fashion & Manufacturing programme, as his striking model. This has equally been great practice for Louie as the worlds of Fashion and Hairdressing are closely aligned and he’s been able to have the full immersive experience in a specialist publicity shoot.
The skilful shots were also taken by two of Glasgow Kelvin’s talented HN Photography students, Lawrence Conway and Steven Wood, ensuring that this prestigious win for Edson is also an accolade for the entire Kelvin community!
Edson was not alone in receiving praise as Sarah his classmate also won a Highly Commended for the excellent work she submitted.
“I’m really happy to win this award which comes after a lot of hard work and is only possible thanks to the support of Glasgow Kelvin College, the MADE Academy for Modern Barbering and Rebel Rebel.
I’m excited by what the future holds as I continue to work hard and develop my skills with the help of those around me.”
The first prize involves a trip to London for Edson with his model, Louie, to work with the multi-award winning Desmond Murray at a photoshoot in London on 21st March.
Congratulations go to Edson, Sarah, all the students whose hard work supported them in this venture and, of course, to the excellent staff who have carried them to where they are now.
It has truly been a joint effort from a great and thriving Kelvin College community!
