What you will learn
You’ll complete six mandatory units designed to give you the advanced knowledge, skills, and confidence to work professionally as a Personal Trainer:
- Applied Anatomy and Physiology for Exercise, Health and Fitness
- Principles of Nutrition and Their Application to Exercise and Health
- Understanding Lifestyle, Health, Wellbeing and Common Medical Conditions
- Encouraging Positive Health and Fitness Behaviours in Client
- Programme Design and Delivery for Personal Training
- Professionalism and Business Acumen for Personal Trainers

You’ll also have the opportunity to take additional “bolt-on” qualifications such as Kettlebells and Indoor Cycling (Spin) to further enhance your professional profile.
Entry requirements
To apply for the Diploma in Personal Training (Level 3), you must have:
✅ A recognised Level 2 qualification in Gym Instructing (or equivalent).
✅ A reasonable level of physical fitness, as the course includes a strong practical component.
Applicants should be comfortable working independently and with clients in a gym or fitness environment.
ℹ️ Applicants must be at least 16 years old at the start of the course.
Please note: learners aged 16–18 may require supervision in a workplace environment.
ℹ️ For this course, if English is not your first language
- you need to have SQA ESOL National 5 (or equivalent, click here to see equivalent qualifications)
- If you do not have a formal ESOL qualification but your language skills meet this level, you should apply for your course and then contact our Admissions team to organise an internal language assessment here at the College.
