Course overview

Learn outdoors, care for nature, and build confidence through practical activities and teamwork.

This course is a great choice if you enjoy being outdoors and want to learn through hands-on projects in nature. You’ll spend time both outside and in the classroom, developing skills in conservation, teamwork, and independent learning.

You’ll learn about the natural world, how to grow food, and how to care for plants around the college grounds.

You’ll also have the chance to gain real work experience by helping park rangers and local charities that support people and protect wildlife.

The course helps you build confidence, independence, and new life skills while working with supportive staff who want you to achieve your best.

This course is designed for learners who:

  • Have a learning disability.
  • Are working at SCQF Level 2.
  • Enjoy practical outdoor activities and teamwork.
  • Want to build confidence, independence, and social skills.

What you will learn

You’ll take part in a range of lessons and outdoor projects, including:

  • Environmental Issues – learning about nature and conservation.
  • Agriculture and Horticulture – planting, growing, and caring for food and plants.
  • Outdoor Activities – teamwork, problem-solving, and exploring safely.
  • Life Skills Mathematics – using maths in everyday outdoor tasks like measuring and planning.
  • Science in the Environment – understanding how natural areas are managed and protected.

You’ll also develop confidence, communication skills, and experience in working as part of a group.

Entry requirements

✅ You do not need any formal qualifications.

✅ You should:

  • Have a learning disability
  • Be able to work at National Level 2.

College staff will meet with you to make sure this is the right course for you.
