Course overview

Build your confidence, explore your interests, and discover your next steps toward work or further study.

This Pathways to Employment (Level 4) course helps you find out more about yourself — what you enjoy, what you’re good at, and where you want to go next.

You’ll learn through fun, practical projects that combine Health and Wellbeing, Sport, Creative Media, Education, and Employability. The course encourages you to think about your goals and supports you to take the next step into mainstream college study and learning.

As part of the Pathways course, you will undertake a ten-week placement within a mainstream class. This experience will help you build confidence working at a higher level and in a larger classroom setting, thereby supporting your application to a mainstream course.

You’ll be supported by staff who will help you develop independence, motivation, problem solving skills and confidence every step of the way.

This course is for learners who:

  • Have a learning difficulty, disability and/or additional support need.
  • Are working at SCQF Level 4 or above.
  • Want to build employability, independence, and life skills.
  • Enjoy hands-on learning and teamwork.
  • Are looking for help to plan their next steps into work or further study.

What you will learn

You’ll take part in a variety of engaging and practical activities, including:

  • Multimedia Projects – developing creative and digital skills.
  • Health, Fitness, and Sport – improving wellbeing through active learning.
  • Employability Skills – gaining confidence through real-world projects.
  • Outdoor and Travel Activities – learning about safety, independence, and teamwork.
  • Personal Development – setting goals and exploring your interests.
  • Educational Visits and Excursions – meeting professionals and discovering new opportunities.

You’ll work with staff who will guide you in areas of progression within the mainstream courses.

What I like most about SFL dept is that they are there for you to give you hand when you are struggling with coursework, and they are there for you when you are struggling with emotions or problems. Staff are easy to approach and have given me techniques to deal with stress
