Childcare and Early Education

Hi everyone, my name is Ting Ting. I've been in college for almost five years.

I first started, I was in course childcare alongside ESOL and I've jumped a level two, EDA level six.

I had a placement in primary school as a classroom assistant and now I'm in HNC Childhood Practice. So I'm also in placement two days a week and two days in college.

I've always wanted to do something in nursery. That's why I came up for this course and I've always enjoyed it because I like to work with children under five. I have my own children. I have two children. I think this is a perfect career for me.

My favorite part of this course is theory and I think the theory is quite interesting. It really shows in the placement when you see the children, you'll see how they develop and how the theory link to the practice. My favorite is ASN, additional support needs unit you're working in childcare section you will be working with a lot of children with additional support needs very interesting unit as well helps you to understand how the children behave how to support them in placemen.

My plan of course is to get a job after this course because i'm dying to get a job in future really really wants to work in early years

I'd like to say HNC is a very hard course for you to come through and it's going to benefit you a lot and also if you have children that would benefit a lot as well.

Brogan: He works in Child Protection?

Abby: Yes.

Brogan: In the Renfrew area.

Abby: His organisation works with committee members in social work youth services.

Brogan: He makes sure that everyone is equal and everyone has equal opportunity to thrive and live in freedom and it works alongside of a lot of different people to make sure the children are safe in Scotland and that they are thriving and they get the support that they need.

It's helped me to understand a lot that we're all wanting the same thing keep our children safe and make sure our children feel heard. There is people out there that, yeah, that they want to help. We're not just all doing it alone. About our course, it's a very challenging course. We get quite a lot of support. I've made a lot of friends. We help each other, we support each other kind of thing.

Hi I'm Helen and I'm currently studying the PDA level 9 Childhood Practice at Glasgow Kelvin.

I chose Glasgow Kelvin because child care was always something I wanted to get involved in.

I started on the NC level six, I continued on to the HNC level 7 and from there I went on to do the level 8.

I chose to come back because the lecturer was one that i had previously worked with during my HNC. She's very supportive really encouraging it was actually her that encouraged me to go further.

Being a working parent, it just fits in my family life. There's not as much pressure. The course is a wee bit more flexible.

When I qualify in June, I'm looking to progress into a team leader position within the council. This course has allowed me to gain the knowledge and skills that I need for that position.

The advice I would give especially for working parents. Coming to college gives you all the skills and knowledge that you need to go into something that you're passionate about.

There's a lot of support available from the lecturers who will help you through the course. Being a working mum I'm actually glad that I did it. It's allowed me to do a job that I've always wanted to do but having children so young I never thought this was a possibility until I came to Glasgow Kelvin.

Studying at Kelvin has been a great decision, found it very supportive and I've actually never looked back since joining.
